Igor Stravinksy's The Rite of Spring
|
Yeah, Rites of Spring is the shit. You know anything that can start riots has to be pretty good.

^ What he said.

The Rite of Spring made me realize not all classical music sucks. I'm glad I was introduced to it, it's really opened my eyes to a lot of great musical works I would have before simply dismissed for being classical.

Ages ago when I was taking music theory at uni, we got out the full score and followed along with a recording of it-- oh it was an exhausting experience & fantastic. And damn! the metre changes in that are almost impossible to follow! An unforgettable piece!

**Sigh
What a helluva piece. This was one of the first big pieces I learned to love like a true musician. God blessed us with a madman like Stravinsky. :) Hardass bassoon parts (the solo moments are definitely worth it). Now if you thought four bassoons were hard to find, look at Berlioz's requiem. |
I particularly like this piece, twas the first classical music i bought, along with Beethoven's ninth

You now realize what guys like John Williams got their inspiration from?
Sometimes I believe Mr Williams is a bit indistinct in disguise it |
I love how it stimulates my imagination and tests my patience at the same time. No matter how many times I listen to this piece, the effect it has on me never wanes. For me, that is the mark of a truly great composer.
