Wozzeck and Lulu? Yeah, I think they'd probably scare some people who aren't familiar with 20th century avant-garde music!

Noone mentioned P. Tchaikovsky? I think his music is also 'beginners-friendly' and even kids like it. Well, at least my youngest brother does. The Nutcracker is our favourite.
