Sorry to jump on the Mozart bandwagon, but I'd have to say that he's my favorite. His music just blows me away.

nevadajames 08-22-2008 09:10 AM

I have to say Beethoven, his later works, especially the string quartets are my favorites

X-One 09-03-2008 08:55 PM

Rachmaninov.
All of his works are brilliant

Poisenville Kidz 09-05-2008 11:01 AM

Rachmaninoff for sure, I'm a piano guy, and that stuff is AMAZING. After that, Mozart is awesome, and Hayden is great too.

But seriously, guys and girls, Romance by Rachmaninoff is worth a listen if you're trying to vibe out, or seduce somebody? haha

4ZZZ 09-06-2008 10:12 AM

I tend to go for the more modern composers. I like Arvo Part, John Williams, Micheal Nyman, Phillip Glass, Steve Reich. I am a big fan of Reich and have a fair bit of his stuff though I know he can polarize somewhat.

I also have Music Of The Spheres by Mike Oldfield and am not surprised that he headed in this direction.

classylady 09-16-2008 08:08 AM

In no particular order with a great example of his work:

Giuseppe Verdi - La Traviata
Robert Schumann - Piano Concerto in A minor
Antonín Dvořák - "New World" Symphony
Edward Elgar - Enigma Variations
Alexander Scriabin - Sonata No. 9 "Black Mass Sonata"

Zarko 09-17-2008 04:02 AM

In no order...

Bedrich Smetana
Gustav Holst
Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky
Claude Debussy
Rimsky-Korsakov

MusicNerd92 10-14-2008 03:33 PM

I find Schumann's music very interesting. The Variations in the Name of Abegg is so fun to play. I'm playing it right now. xD
I'm also in love with Debussy. His music is beautiful. I'm currently playing his Reflections in the Water. :D

Raust 10-16-2008 07:50 PM

I love Bach.

Sunny 11-24-2008 09:36 AM

Beethoven. Very tragic but unique.

mannny 11-24-2008 02:35 PM

For me it's either Beethoven or Chopin.

MariaVolante 12-09-2008 03:29 PM

Hmm.. I am young to classical music. But from my present point of view Boccherini and Tchaikovsky are brilliant

pianokeys 12-09-2008 04:50 PM

For me it is definitely Mozart. He is a music genius. I love all of his compositions.

barbarella 12-11-2008 05:46 PM

For me it would have to be Haydn-especially "Trauer" and "Farewell". I also love listening to Corelli and Holst "Planet Suite" because it contains "I Vow To Thee My Country"

Seltzer 12-13-2008 02:39 PM

My favourites are Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich and Bach.

onlineticketspot.com. 12-25-2008 11:59 PM

Mine favorite classical composer is Joseph Haydn. He was Mozart's friend and Beethoven's teacher.Symphony No. 94 in G Major (Surprise). This is really a fun.

Boris 01-01-2009 04:42 PM

Bach wasn't a classical composer, he wrote baroque music.

Halfa 01-01-2009 05:57 PM

who cares. the damned AP theory class i took was entirely based of of conventions that he used commonly but broke on occasion.

Yeah and you could also say Chopin didn't write classical music, he wrote Romantic music. Or Debussy wrote Impressionistic music. It doesn't matter, classical is just a big umbrella term.

like rock, jazz, and metal.
actually metal kind of falls under the umbrella term of Rock.

but anyway, the fact of the matter is, most people dont understand the categorization of classical subgenres, so its all put under the general title of "classial."

like how "The Who" is labeled under rock and so are "The Ramones." just different types of rock.

and "The Gordan Goodwin Band" and Charlie Parker both played jazz. it was just different jazz.

so you just begin to split hairs.

Elastic Man 01-23-2009 10:37 AM

György Ligeti is definitely my current favourite composer.

twilexia 01-23-2009 06:54 PM

Tchaikovsky

Modern wise, John Williams and Howard Shore, lol

cnelson 01-25-2009 04:57 PM

I love Debussy's "Girl with the flaxen hair." Does anyone recommend anything similar?

mannny 01-26-2009 01:20 PM

^Beethoven's Sonatas for violin and piano.

RedChopin 01-28-2009 10:06 PM

I definitely recommend Debussy's "Afternoon of a Faun". I guarantee you will fall in love with that piece.

I already commented on this topic, but I just wanted to add another thing...

I absolutely LOVE Prokofiev's 5 piano concertos!!

ninaNirvana 02-05-2009 07:06 PM

CHOPIN- Prelude in C Minor. So pretty and so sad and "lachrymose".

witmer 02-17-2009 10:22 PM

I think my favorite at this point in time is something a little different; Aaron Copland. Such bold, noble, unique, and natural sounding music.

My top of the most famous are Dvorak, Beethoven, and Tchaikovky. Beethoven is awesome, Dvorak is really interesting and imaginative, and Tchaikovsky has the absolutely most memorable tunes. I love Holst. Emmanuel Chabrier is a favorite. I'm also one of those Erik Satie guys. Debussy is nice. Johann Strauss Jr. Stravinsky. I've always liked Saint-Saens. I'm actually a big Haydn guy. Mozart's music is universally beautiful, too beautiful to be true in many cases, I love his music. It takes me to my special place, hehe. Lizt's hungarian rhapsody no. 2 is such an awesome piano piece. I know I'm forgetting some. J.S Bach is very juicy mind music, gives you something to think about. Vivaldi really excity concerti and Handel's water music is superb. There are certainly others. I won't I won't regret not representing them.

I admit, I don't stray too far from the classics except for Part who is already a living legend.

Handel, Debussy, Liszt, Stravinsky, Holst, Copeland, Faure, Part.

qixx 03-14-2009 10:16 AM
