Read this and you'll know why I'm here:- http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...ml#post1912126
I don't know much about Del Shannon, but when I get back from work I'm going to track down the mods of 2005 and give them a real roasting for leaving a Del Shannon thread in the Classical Music section! |
I like that one song of his. You know the one. Play it around any old person and they'll hum along to the keyboard solo without fail.
|
Runaway was the first song I ever remember hearing incredible as that sounds since I wasn't even born yet when it came out (My Mom was pregnant with me at the time). He had some good singles but his albums kind of sucked.

Not sure why the OP uses a foreign language for the definite article (del) but anyway....
The Shannon is the longest river in Ireland, and one of the longest in Europe. It also has the distinction of my being responsible for almost sinking one of Shannon Cruise's pleasure boats around 1988 or so. |

This has been a message to ruin the mood by your neighborhood Exo. |
I can't remember much from before the age of 8 or around there.
On topic: Not even sure this is the right thing, but it's the first that comes up when searching Del Shannon on youtube, so... I'm going with it. 50's popular music never really does it for me and I don't think this guy is a very convincing singer either. This track does have some retro atmosphere though, so I could see it being used well in a movie or something. |
Runaway was considered ahead of it's time in 1961 with the Musitron organ. He followed up with the similar Hats Off To Larry. After that, he had a few hits and a couple great songs in late 64, early 65 with Keep Searchin' and Stranger In Town. Basically a singles artist though, even by early sixties standards.
And, Exo, how do you know I'm human? MUAHAHAHAHA! http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/de...y-emoticon.gif |

Honestly one of my favorite songs. |
Ah I thought that it was one of Del the Funky Homosapien's side projects, but that man doesn't look funky in the slightest.

As for the song, Runaway, I like the hook, Run Run Runaway, but for me Del Shannon was the kind of artist I was happy to leave behind in favour of the Beatles/Stones/Kinks etc. so I don't think you're missing out on much, Qwertyy. |
Pretty much the only reason threads like these are in the Classical section is bc some people apparently can't read and think this sub-forum is for anything that makes them go "wow, that's a real classic!"
I bet there's a thread in here somewhere about The Oddysey or something too. |

I walk by it at least once a week just running regular ole errands. Couldn't miss it.

The song I like by him is Keep Searchin', it was release in '65 and there is a bit of British Invasion or (UK) beat music influence there - I think. Maybe it's a unlikely coincidence but the song reminds of The Searchers. Del Shannon - Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow The Sun) |

He was also the first one to technically chart with a Beatle song. He recorded From Me To You not long after the Beatles did and it made the Bubbling Under on Billboard in 1963. Not a great version, but interesting trivia none the same. |
