Default Sopor Æternus & the Ensemble of Shadows

Another one of my favorite musicians; Anna-Varney Cantodea, from Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. If first discovered her through to my admiration of Poe, in which she has derived some of his poems into songs, such as “The Sleeper”, “Eldorado”, “The Conqueror Worm”, and “Alone”. Truly fragile and vulnerable; which was the initial appeal of the music and lyrics; and of course, their presentation.

Musically, it’s a mix of neo-classical, folk noir, and darkwave. There are a some baroque elements in the music as well, depending on which album, which I love.

With over 19 or so releases from her, these are just a few of my favorites/songs that I first got me into Sopor.
