Default Nico

I can't believe there was no thread on the famous (or infamous) model/actress/musician. I have "Chelsea Girl" and "The Marble Index", the latter I recently purchased on record. "Chelsea Girl" is a nice poppy, but slightly somber 60's affair, but "The Marble Index" was one hell of an intense listen, and I've found it to be a great album to help me through really sad times. I've heard "Desertshore" is an amazing follow up to "The Marble Index", but I've yet to listen to it. Anyway, what do you guys think?

She's great, Chelsea Girl, The Marble Index, Desertshore and The End... are all great albums. The Marble Index in particular is a superb listen, and I've always found her voice strangely affecting.

She's also very influential on the new wave of freak folk musicians.

I like Chelsea Girl but I read somewhere that Nico hated what they did to it in production.

Well there is a quote on Wikipedia;

Quote:
I still cannot listen to it, because everything I wanted for that record, they took it away. I asked for drums, they said no. I asked for more guitars, they said no. And I asked for simplicity, and they covered it in flutes! [...] They added strings and – I didn't like them, but I could live with them. But the flute! The first time I heard the album, I cried and it was all because of the flute.

In other Nico related trivia she was the model on the cover of the Bill Evans Trio album Moonbeams.
