The New Blockaders - Changez Les Blockeurs [1982]
 

...and so it goes for 20 min., actually 40. That's the only album I've heard from them. It's grating, intrusive...but kind of like watching a car crash. Well, hearing in this case.

But, why haven't you actually said something about The New Blockaders beside posting a youtube clip? Unless that's some kind of statement in itself, like...you're speechless?

Well the music should speak for itself perhaps, and people can draw their own conclusions without needing any help from me I'm sure. I'm not really into doing big reviews of music, I don't have the time or energy. And I also haven't known it for very long anyway.

I think it's interesting, though difficult. Maybe I won't want to hear the full album alot, but even if I hear some of it perhaps I can get something out of its interaction of various sounds. Seems to me to be quite an orderly kind of piece and not chaotic like a car crash.

I didn't mean you should have written a review, but some general info on the band. That doesn't take much effort, but is very helpful for people who don't know this band.

Car crash can be orderly, like in chain reaction. But, anyway, I meant it in the way that no matter how grating and intrusive this music is, you can't ignore it, you can't "look" away. I believe they had some manifesto which perfectly outlines their concept. I'll try to find it and post it.

Ha, well I think I probably would look away from an actual car crash.

There is something purposeful about it so I think it is kind of involving.

Eh, I always thought the album was made to create some sort of John Cage-like statement. You know... with finding structure and pleasure in non-musical sounds... whether it's found in the ambiance of the wind blowing or the belligerent sounds of construction or traffic. While I (strangely) enjoyed listening to the album, I found TNB Est Mort to be much more accessible.

However, it's like Starrynight said... it's definitely involving -- especially when you put forth time into listening to it in its entirety...
