I want to put Davey Graham forward too. He was in essence a folk musician, but he was a hugely experimental guitar player for his time, with his work in the 60s influential to later musicians. He explored middle eastern scales and melodies, incorporating them into traditional standards, whilst utilising off-kilter tunings and chord progressions.
