I don't understand your question. These are the votes for the next thing to listen to so presumably no one except me has listened to the album yet.

I started listening to it to see if I was going to stick with Branca or Alva Noto. I've listened to Module 7, Module 1, and Module 6. Just to get an idea of what it was.

I think you're kind of getting ahead of yourself as far as how this is supposed to work. We're all supposed to be listening to Phew right now, the discussion of it begins on Monday I think. The poll that's up right now is for the following week's discussion.

I know. I can't get an idea of what the album is so I can vote? And I've been unable to listen to Phew because the when I try to load the link that Clutknuckle sent everyone it says this: Attachment 4433

I brought it up earlier, but I received no help.

dankrsta 01-22-2011 05:13 PM

JackPat, save your thoughts on Alva Noto for the week we're supposed to discuss it. You're not really going to listen to every album in advance so that you can vote? Where's the fun of surprise?

As for Phew, I'll send you another link.

You can do whatever you want, but the whole point of this thing is to discuss a given album on a given week so trying to do so before the voting is even closed goes against how it's supposed to work.

It's not a PDF, that's why you can't open it in Acrobat Reader. You need to use StuffIt Expander or something similar to open the stuffed folder you've downloaded.

He's going to still have the same problem. The issue isn't the link, it's that he's trying to use the wrong program to open the files.

I'm unable to open it on another type of software. It just goes straight to Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Which unzipping/unstuffing program are you using?

No, his may work. It's a different file format, and it doesn't have the Acrobat symbol on the file tab (using Google Chrome).

No idea what that means. I'm not too savvy when it comes to computers. As long as the file type isn't .rar, there should be no problem.

Oh dammit, I didn't even look at the picture.

JackPat, it says on the picture the file is rar. Then why don't you use the rar application.

The browser you're using has nothing do with it. Just download the .rar file using whatever browser you want and then follow these instructions: How to Unstuff a ZIP File | eHow.com

I listened to VU&N last night for the first time in about a year and it sounded fresh as ever. Anyways, I voted Harry Partch.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-23-2011 03:23 PM

I don't want to vote for Partch, I already heard it!

Hence why I didn't vote for Branca, EN or VU.

dankrsta 01-24-2011 08:53 AM

The voting is over. Alva Noto - Transform (2001) is the album we're going to listen to this week:

Alva Noto—Transform (2001)
Alva Noto is one of several stage names for German musician and visual artist Carsten Nicolai. Wikipedia actually has a pretty good description of his music, so I'll defer to that: Nicolai transforms sound by looping oscillators and tone generators. He does not use sequencers, but edits his work to give his compositions rhythmic structures. Clicks and glitches are not used as ornamental additions to the compositions but make up the essential rhythmic and harmonic elements of the work. He frequently samples electronic information transmission sounds such as fax tones, modem sounds and telephone pops and clicks are sampled and organised.

clutnuckle 01-24-2011 06:01 PM

^^ As with last weeks, I've got a link if anybody needs it.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-24-2011 06:02 PM

I need one.

The new poll is up with two more suggestions. Info about all suggested albums can be easily accessed from here

Anyway when I edited the poll I changed the place of pretty much every suggestion, so I hope everybody can vote now. If not, let me know. Unfortunately I can't get it back to public anymore.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-28-2011 10:45 AM

Can't access the poll at the moment. Also, when will the discussion begin on the album?

dankrsta 01-28-2011 10:49 AM

Hmm...what did you vote for last time?

I'll open the Alva Noto discussion thread on Monday.

TockTockTock 01-28-2011 12:53 PM

I wish there were more choices.

Just be patient. The options will keep changing every week and people will continue to suggest new albums.

Janszoon 01-28-2011 02:07 PM

Just voted Flux Information Sciences.

clutnuckle 01-28-2011 03:47 PM

I can't vote =/

But consider mine going to Keiji.

dankrsta 01-28-2011 03:53 PM

^OK, I added your vote.

bob. 01-28-2011 03:57 PM

i'm just curious....

but why is it that some people cannot vote?....i've had no problems at all

and what happens if its a tie?

dankrsta 01-28-2011 04:17 PM

Eh, it seems the polls are acting weird when you edit them. I had no problem so far when it comes to my vote, but I'm never sure if all people who previously voted can still do that or will the poll say they already voted. It looks like it somehow memorizes the place of our votes from previous poll. So I have to make a different order of options and use the additional options and still some people can't vote. But if someone votes for the first time he will have no problem. It's strange.

Tie? Well, I hope we can decide and work something out. We'll see...

Mrd00d 01-28-2011 05:46 PM

If this is a new poll, I don't believe I've voted, and can't.

dankrsta 01-28-2011 05:49 PM

****...What option do you wanna vote for? I'll add your vote.

Mrd00d 01-29-2011 08:50 AM

I have a feeling Keijo will win unless there's a surge of later votes otherwise... but I'll vote an inconsequential Nuclear Rabbit vote :usehead:

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-29-2011 09:37 AM

Hmmm... What if we don't make this a poll, and just make the votes replies, and tally those?

dankrsta 01-29-2011 09:43 AM

Well, I don't know. This is frustrating, some people can vote and some can't. Maybe next time I'll do what I wanted to avoid previously, to open a new thread for every poll and when the voting is over, delete it.

It's just that I'm really intrigued to figure out why is a poll behaving like this when edited.

Anyway, Skaligojurah, you haven't voted, right? Tell me where your vote goes and I'll add it.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 01-29-2011 09:49 AM

naw, for a brief moment it let me vote, and I voted for Haino. Not sure if it counted, or not.

dankrsta 01-29-2011 09:56 AM

Yeah I think it counted. You, clutnuckle and probably JackPat. That's three votes.

That's what Tore does for the Prog/fusion album club.
