Our choice for this week listening is Keiji Haino - Watashi Dake

Her voice is also very haunting and can range from screaming to just barely a whisper. Normally, I am an advocate for music with English lyrics, but this album is an exception :D.

Alva Noto discussion thread is opened!

@ThePhanastasio - I'm glad you joined and that is a very interesting recommendation :) Bluegrass, funk, psychedelia...hmm, looking forward to hearing it.

Two versions exist, the original (11 tracks) and the re-released one with 13. I have a link to the re-released one if anyone needs it, and anybody who personally wants just the 11 original tracks can just delete off the last two like here:

Original: Keiji Haino -

Re-released: 灰野敬二* - わたしã*け? (CD, Album) at Discogs

This link I have does have the songs tagged with English titles though :(

I could only find the one with all the tracks labeled "Untitled." I had no idea that they had names.

Apparently the re-released version comes with Japanese titles which this version has then translated to English.

Talk about defeating the purpose. I'm probably going to at least change all of my titles on iTunes back to the original Japanese ones, or "Untitled #1", "Untitled #2", etc.

Still, excited as Hell for this one. Keiji is a silent hero of mine, somebody whose work I've barely investigated yet have always held in high regard.

i have decided to suggest two more albums.....one i know nothing about and one that is a favorite

Hermann Nitsch - Requiem für meine Frau Beate (Musik der 56.Aktion)
http://www.tochnit-aleph.com/shop/pr...iem-beate.jpeg

Quote:

"begining 1977, beate nitsch was travelling in schwarzwald. she has been inaugurating a nursery-school and wanted to meet some relatives in stuttgart when, near ulm, she had a terrible car accident. beate had supported her husband's art not only sharing the sentimental part of their life but also actively collaborating to the organisation of his work. she organised the purchase of castle in prinzendorf, the central place where nitsch will develope his orgien mysterien theater. for hermann nitsch this loss was a complete collapse. he suddenly felt to be on the opposite side of life, alone and full of despair. in that days he reached the deepest point of black unhappiness. nitsch decided then to go the naples where he organised a lehraktion at morra gallery. his friend kubelka joined him from usa. during the lehraktion he was told about a big performance festival that would have taken place in bologna. nitsch was invited to partecipate with an aktion to be performed in a big old church. it was clear to nitsch that he would have conceived an aktion dedicated to the memory of beate. a requiem even. before the aktion in bologna hermann nitsch music was basically released as a wall of noise. the musicians could play what they wanted and the only instruction was to play as loud as possible. only the duration, the starting point and the noise level of each instrument was fixed. for the first time with the requiem nitsch started to conceive longer tone clusters, specially for the wind instruments. the perfect acoustics of the church with its wonderful organ, which shocked nitsch with its intensity and power, suggested him a new direction in music. among the lucky audience were many friends coming from all over the world to witness the event. for everyone the requiem was an important and estatic experience. the big success of the aktion gave nitsch the strengh to continue his work. shortly after bologna he was invited to create new aktionen in canada and los angeles.

he is one of my favorite artists and i have one of his symphonies which is quite an interesting listen.....this just sounds amazing

and

Crispin Hellion Glover - The Big Problem Does Not Equal The Solution. The Solution = LET IT BE.
http://blstb.msn.com/i/42/AC6BF5D8C6...E46F5D67E8.jpg

Crispin Hellion Glover is maybe my favorite person on earth....this album was recorded in 1989 is very odd indeed....part spoken word, part music and all puzzling....literally the album itself presents a riddle....and it is the listeners job to solve it.....original pressings actually came with his phone number printed on the back and he asked listeners to call him when they felt they had solved his riddle
Quote:

"All words and lyrics point to THE BIG PROBLEM. The solution lay within the title; LET IT BE. Crispin Hellion Glover wants to know what you think these nine things all have in common."
from the back of the album

i love this album for so many reasons....and this you all might actually enjoy it also

I love this album so much! GREAT recommendation! Crispin Glover is my absolute favorite living actor, and I actually just spent all of last night showing my cousin clips of Crispin Glover and playing his music. :)

have you seen What Is It? and It Is Fine. Everything Is Fine yet?

the suggestion is celebrating his announcement to start film part 3 of the IT trilogy :)

ThePhanastasio 02-01-2011 03:09 PM

Not yet - I was going to try to see it at one of his screenings when he comes back around my way. Missed it last time, and was devastated.

bob. 02-01-2011 03:11 PM
