Is there any etiquette I should know about before recommending a piece of music? I have a couple in mind but I think they're both pretty hard to come across so it might be difficult for people if either one won the vote.

I can find anything. Anything. ANYTHING.

But if that's the case where no one can find a link, you could always upload it to mediafire for everyone if it wins.

Is using Mediafire illegal? I've looked into this and I keep finding different answers...

Uh... this album club itself is incredibly illegal.

If mediafire were in itself illegal (sending files to other people), then it wouldn't be up. The things you SEND over mediafire may be illegal, but the website itself isn't.

Sending albums to people is technically illegal due to copyrights n' whatnot. But I personally don't give a **** about copyright laws or who wants to put a price on music, ESPECIALLY on all of these artifact avant-garde albums that probably were only pressed to 100 copies in Japan in their heyday. There's no point in paying a hundred bucks for a raggedy old vinyl copy of a Kaoru Abe album unless you're already a huge fan. If you're just interested in hearing a very under-appreciated avant-artist because everybody else was too busy listening to kitsch while he/she/they was/were pushing musical boundaries (the purpose of this group, methinks), then links are pretty much the only way to do it. Illegally.

Woopsy.

So... you're saying I can't find Thinking Plague albums at homers?

My example was Kaoru Abe, not Thinking Plague, who aren't even close to being 'unknown'. Hardly under-appreciated by the kind of people who listen to that stuff anyway. A number of very innovative musicians see reissues, sure, but plenty do not. That is really why mediafire is a great tool. For those artists where you CANNOT get their work constantly revamped, remastered, reupholstered and redistributed. Maybe 10 people out there have a Natural Snow Buildings release that they were lucky enough to nab on their own, but for many people it's virtually impossible to get into some bands without hundreds of dollars and the ability to order from sketchy online sources.

You make a great argument.

Eh, I honestly don't mind legal/illegal. I was just trying to be sardonic in a fun sense.

Uploading copywrited stuff onto there is.

Downloading it isn't.
