Default Midori

Imagine if Koenji Hyakkei's token intensity and insanity was personified not by rigorous time signature changes and technical prowess, but by the pop format of songwriting. That's how I see Midori (ミドリ in their native tongue, I presume). Their album セカンド (Second) shows a band capable of performing both ballad-esque songs and anthem-like fast-paced ones, both injected with a charisma and immediately identifiable sound.

Somebody told me there's a lot of Japanese music like this and that I shouldn't get excited - in which case, I hope to 'not get very excited' about every artist like this.

Can't find any of their studio work on YouTube, although you can hear somebody playing a piano part to one of their songs; if you like the piano part played under some chaotic rhythms, you might want to look into an album:
