Default Negativland

Absolutely one of my favorite bands going now, at the moment. One of the few bands I know from the sound collage genre of constructing most songs out of clips/samples. I think what they do is absolutely ingenious.

Very bizarre, unique, intelligently funny band. Somewhat satirical/political but nicely subtle, too. Broadly covering topics that range from nuclear war to the commercialization of music to the commercial world in general. It doesn't get in the way of the nicely unique tone, and often shockingly songlike compositions.

Anybody else here like em?

I've been meaning to check this band. I've only heard couple of their songs and among them the one you posted. They're really interesting. What album would you recommend me for the start?

^^There's a kraut-rock thread in this part of the forum. We can discuss it there. They're my favorite kraut-rock band.

Negativland turned 30 this year!

i have a Negativland Copyrighted whoopee cushion

the movie Sonic Outlaws is what really got me into them...its basically them causing havoc on the people of SF and basically breaking every copyright law ever written....it also goes over the crazy U2 lawsuit....and includes an interview with Bono and The Edge where they "claim" to have had nothing to do with the lawsuit on a radio show....then the boys form Negativland call in and rip them apart

yeah although musically Negativland are a real hit and miss....some of their stuff is amazing and some is really annoying....as people i love them to death

U2, Helter Stupid, their self-titled... All good in their own ways. However, U2 will always be my favorite. Just hilarious, side-splitting onslaughts of plunderphonic genius for 13+ minutes.

I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND IT... WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR, THAT IS.

Just went a quick look on youtube about them. "U2's Lost Song" is pretty funny.

That'd be the second track on their U2 EP, I believe. The entire thing is just chuckles from beginning to end.

THESE GUYS ARE FROM ENGLAND AND WHO GIVES A SHIT?

Hey, you should send me a link to where I can get U2. I only have Escape From Noise, Dispepsi, and Helter Stupid.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
