Library Music
(Not sure if this belongs here but... I didn't know where else to put it! Since my favorite types of library LPs tend to fall into electroacoustic/20th century classical/avantgarde categories this seemed like the sensible place.)
Anyway, by the term "Library Music" I essentially mean music owned by production music libraries and licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media (that's Wikipedia's definition anyway). Doesn't sound that exciting? Well... Although the music was initially created for commercial purposes you'll also come across some remarkably adventurous stuff. Composers working within the production system seem to have been given a large amount of creative freedom, hence library music can sometimes prove to be one of the most liberating and unconstrained music "genres" around. Some favorites records + youtube examples: Camille Sauvage - 7 DRUMS CONCERTO YouTube - Camille Sauvage - Magma This is from the almost-as-great FANTASMAGORIES lp. Egisto Macchi - VOIX YouTube - egisto macchi-laboratori From the BIORITMI lp. Patrice Sciortino - CHRONORADIAL YouTube - Patrice Sciortino : Sept souffles (1980) The only Sciortino video I could find on youtube. I assume this is the same person who made those library lps but, alas, I may be wrong... ...any fans/intrigued browsers out there? Last edited by Elastic Man; 06-14-2010 at 06:28 AM. |

I'm a bit intrigued, please do share. I enjoyed the middle sample the most. The first wasn't too bad, but I did not like the strictly vocals in the last. If you have any other videos, I would like to check them out.

youtube videos are a little slim to be honest... hence I had to post some relatively unrepresentative examples (especially the last, which sounds almost nothing like the library record to which I was referring to). There are quite a few Egisto Macchi tracks up there which seem to have been sporadically culled from various different records at random (see uploads from this user: YouTube - krauseful's Channel).
Maybe I could PM you a link to download one or two of the records I mentioned? Really seems like the only way to have a proper introduction... anyway cheers for the reply! |
