"Martial Industrial" music
 

While their style has varied over time, the work of Der Blutharsch I'm partial to is when the period wherein it's labelled "Martial Industrial". Bombastic percussion punctuating a slow to medium pace affair. Melody is brought out by some repetitive string and horn sections.

The only other act I've heard who sound similar would be Sophia, although the Wiki page on the subject says that Boyd Rice & Test Dept. performed in the style... which is unusual, because everything I've heard from both of those sounds nothing like Der Blutharsch.

Thoughts on this "genre"? Any other fans of Der Blutharsch or Sophia?

I haven't listened to Der Blutharsch, but your description can be applied to Laibach and Death in June (in the early phase).

This quite easy-to-do stuff:
take a "Noisy" loop, import in the sequencer and apply a loud Distorsion on it. Then you repeat the same loop for 3 minutes while inserting a break every 16 measure (a Sci-Fi film sample most of the time)... roughly ... and you got your Industrial track !

Dont try this at home especially if you live in a building :-))

i love the early Der Blutharsch stuff....i suggest you look into The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath The Cloud

i honestly think that boyd rice's "martial" stuff is very overrated....

both test Dept. and laibach are both very militaristic industrial....but not really "martial" as in using that term to define a genre

Sophia is a great project....if you enjoy that more orchastrated atmosphere with the bombastic drumming look into Across the Rubicon, Triarii, Arditi, Krepulec and Dernière Volonté

Go with what Bob said. I have not heard as much as him, but I have dabbled in it from time to time. Sophia certainly is a great start!
