I just listened to Gorguts' Obscura. I know it's a metal album, but it deserves to be mentioned as avant-garde, IMO.
And after digesting it for a day, I feel like my musical pallet has been cleansed. I've noticed that the songs and artists that I've listened to hundreds of times now sound different and I'm picking up things I've never heard before. I was blown away by the bat sh*t insanity of the album itself. But taking into account how it has changed how I listen to the rest of the library, it is absolutely amazing. It may not be the favorite album ever (4.2 our of 5, IMO) but it has a chance to go down as one of the most important albums I've ever heard. |
