I was wondering whether someone could give me some avant-garde bands to listen to. A few of my favorite bands to sketch my taste: Kraftwerk, Goat, Swans, Sonic Youth, White Suns, Portishead, SQÜRL, The Jesus Lizard, Sleep Party People, DNA, etc.

I know The Pixies and Deerhoof, but have never been able to enjoy either one. Montreal doesn't ring a bell, thanks!

Pop doesn't automatically exclude quality, so I'll be sure to give 'em a spin.

I've simply never been able to get into The Pixies. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that turns me off.

Fair enough, i asked cause i don't see that much of a leap from Sonic youth to the pixies.

I'd love it if someone would throw some good math rock at me.

Some personal favorites:
Shellac
Hella
Slint
Tera Melos

Kekal comes to mind. Really weird sound. Band from the Philippines I believe.

Y'know, I gotta hand it to the guys in those bands. Memorizing some of those pieces to play in concert must be quite a feat!

I love all of the contemporary classical, electro-acoustic acts like Nils Frahm, Elizabeth Fawn, Ludovico Einaudi, Sophie Hutchings, Abandoned Toys, Julia Kent, etc.
