Kommissar Hjuler und Mama Baer - I think they're perfect if you're looking for something really avantgarde and new

Default A New Kind of Water

Does anyone have any suggestions for albums along the lines of KK Null & Jim O'rourke's "New Kind of Water," John Zorn and Naked City's "Absinthe," Matthew Brower, William Fowler Collins, etc.?

This thread is a bit slow so I've got a question to liven things up. Maybe.

Been really getting into Animal Collective lately (yeah I'm an old(er) fart, so I realize I'm behind the curve here). Also like Tame Impala (though to date they're a bit one-dimensional). I also like Atlas Sound to a lesser extent, though I'm not crazy about his work with Deerhunter.

Of all the recent bands I've listened to, AnCo is leagues above the others. I like the way they do a HUGE variety of music and sounds. Are there any other similar band out there? I like weird, but not too weird. It has to be very melodic (even the noisier tunes). I don't like just loud and noisy, but I also get bored with just mellow stuff.

Any suggestions? Preferably post-2000, though maybe there are some 90's bands I haven't heard.

Have you heard Mr. Bungle? They are genre blending masters and more accessible than their heavier (and very obvious influence) Naked City. This track's from 1991:

And here's a track from 1999:

Hope this helped!

Does anybody have any recommendations for some super noisy hip hop similar to Dalek?

Thanks! Great recommendation, I'd never heard of them before.

Just listened to California. It was wild! Not sure it's what I had in mind, but it was a worthwhile recommendation anyway. Pretty amusing at times listening to all the changes in each song.
