Wonderful band formed from the remains of the equally wonderful Viv Akauldren. Afeter touring extensively with Pavement in the early 90's they released the sublime S/T, a blend of psychedelia, garage rock, ambient and world music influences. There's a keen eye for melody amongst the experimentation, whilst the eclectism of the material is strangely cohesive.

i'm sorry Stu but there really isn't anything that drew my attention to either album i have upon first listen. sure, it's ambient and stuff but the sparse instrumental work really wasn't enough to picque my interest.
![]() i'll listen to them again in a bit, hopefully my opinion will change.

Yeah the S/T pisses all over Devil IMO. Its an acquired taste, thats for sure, i personally think its amazing, one of my favourite albums of the 90s, i love how the harder, psych-garage moments contrast with the otherwordly ambience. I just love the atmosphere it evokes. I can understand why on first listen its quiite underwhelming but give it a chance - im betting you'll really appreciate it before too long.

I nabbed it off you after your tops list and given it plenty of spins since then, I put it on a lot when I'm reading. You are right about the atmosphere being excellent, but it still hasn't really grabbed me.
I'll just let it lurk my hard drive for now. |
