Afrirampo
Great japanese noise band. Similiar to the Boredoms but with a penchant for melody. Kore Ga Mayaku Da is a great album

Been meaning to get the album they did with Acid Mothers. . .
I'll look at their myspace again. |
I would have loved to have caught their shows with Lightning Bolt. Theres something strangely appealing about two girls just going mental.

I like to eat good food.
I like to eat good food too. |
I like what i've heard, although what i've heard is apparently the less crazy stuff. On my list.

Hell yeah. These guys are alright in my book. My computer crapped out on me recently and their albums were, sadly, not backed up on my external.

I downloaded Kore Da Mayaku Da when you first made the thread and promptly forgot about it, anyway I've found it now and I like it.
I really wish I could understand Japanese, because I lyrics are quite important to me, but the guitars are all so energetic and brilliantly sloppy that I can forgive anything, and the way they contrast all that noise with their twee voices is great. The opening sequence of yelling and building guitar sends chills down my spine, some of the more experimental minimalist sections don't do much for me. I'll probably look into their album with the Acid Mothers, as well as The Boredoms if they're similar. |
They don't have the fame of The Boredoms but obviously that means nothing. Fame and quality don't go together often in popular music I find.

Honestly, I find Afrirampo to be the quintessential noise rock band. They are exactly that. Noise. and Rock. They have won me over with nothing but their raw energy...and that says a lot. They sound like they are having so much fun making their music and it makes me want to listen to it. Not to mention their later albums actually show a lot of talent as musicians.
And once they lost some of the energy they broke up. I can respect that. |
I recently saw Pikacyu Makoto live. It was like seeing Kaoru Abe or Peter Brotzmann in their prime. In other words, an absolutely glorious experience.
