Some days, I enjoy their soundscapes - it's good for lyin' around and thinking.

Other days, it pretty much drives me to the edge of insanity and I can't take it.

Great band.

I think I like the live recordings best.

e.g.
YouTube - throbbing gristle - discipline

As others have said, when I'm in the mood 20 Jazz Funk Greats is amazing, but there are times when the thought of listening to Throbbing Gristle makes me want to curl into a ball.

That's what I like about them. Their music is disturbing and unsettling. It certainly makes an impact.

I have four of their records and my favourite is probably D.o.A. The Third and Final Report. I certainly listened to it the most.

Yeah dont get me wrong, it is a fantastic album at the end of the day, but sometimes I just want a hook and a melody. Same with Cabaret Voltaire, EN, Nurse With Wound, Foetus etc - it's challenging music that requires a great deal of effort on the part of the listener to fully appreciate it.

^^^I know what you mean. But Throbbing Gristle is one of those bands (and to a lesser extent Cabaret Voltaire) whose music, no matter how challenging, has a great drawing power for me, and a certain disturbing atmosphere, an emotion is what hooks me to it. It's not just a cold experiment that is interesting to listen because of formal explorations, in the way I sometimes feel about Einsturzende Neubauten and Nurse With Wound. That's why I'm not always in the mood for these two, but Throbbing Gristle hooks me much easier.

I think he wants discipline, but I think I'm just misinterpreting the point of the song.

never really got into them, although I haven't really made a serious attempt beyond listening to 20 Jazz Funk Greats a few times, and always many months apart. Hamburger Lady is quite a song!

same applies to Einsturzende Neubauten ... definitely need to give them another shot.

I love Cabaret Voltaire though, something about them clicked for me.
