Butthole Surfers
(If there's already a thread would the modsquad be kind enough to merge, I looked everywhere)
Butthole Surfers Thoughts, favourite albums, bad acid trips? I just got Rembrandt Pussyhorse, listened to it twice and I think it's better than Locust Abortion Technician. Just strung out, fucked up, often psychedelic but also oddly accessible. |

Fantastic band and I also think Rembrandt Pussyhorse a fantastic album.
Don't worry, half the times I looked for old threads I dont find them either.

i still havent got a handle on who's who in the band, to me they are just this titanic, lunatic force that are responsible for sending Daniel Johnston over the edge and probably countless others with their gigs

You know, in theory these guys have always seemed like a band I'd dig but in practice I've had a hard time getting into them. Is there an album anyone would recommend as like the seminal Butthole Surfers album? The only one I have is piouhgd.

this is 1987, the album before it (the aforementioned Rembrandt Pussyhorse) is equally brilliant and the 1988 album Hairway to Steven is supposed to be the last album before they went more commercial, and i have to say it's my least favourite of the three |

i've only really listed to the 'commercial' albums.
'electric larryland' isn't that bad, everyone has heard 'pepper' i don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows i can taste you my lips and smell you in my clothes. there's also a 'cover' if you will of ministry's 'jesus built my hotrod' with actual lyrics as opposed to the ding dong dang dang-a-long-a-ding-dong that gibby haynes sang on the original. 'independent worm saloon' also has its moments. i really like 'edgar' and 'the wooden song' i've heard random cuts from their older stuff and have a copy of 'hairway to steven' on my hard drive. it's also great, and while i can see that the band did become a little more 'commercial' with the releases i mention above at least they still sounded like the butthole surfers... the last 'new' album i heard was 'weird revolution' and quite frankly it sucked, it sounded like a slightly more intelligent version of the bloodhound gang. |

yes, deffo. Any of the three albums I mentioned to Janszoon. Admittedly those are the only ones I have but the Butthole consensus seems to agree with me =D |
