this is 1987, the album before it (the aforementioned Rembrandt Pussyhorse) is equally brilliant and the 1988 album Hairway to Steven is supposed to be the last album before they went more commercial, and i have to say it's my least favourite of the three

This is quite an album. Actually, during the era of Rembrandt and this, my best friend got me into them for a while. For some strange reason, I never bought Hairway, and pretty much left it there, but their early albums are great reminders of what it was like then. Saw a show in '87 in Flint, met my first real girlfriend there as well. Great show!

87 would have been a good year for them live.....i first caught them in 91....still fun....but not scary

Funny, I just came across their PCP EP record, a live EP that I think dates back to the 80's. Man that definitely sounded like one scary show. And when you think about how many people there were arfed up on acid, that must have been something. I'm not a huge live album fan but that is actually a pretty fun record.

I've been obsessed with the Surfers' output for quite some time. The first EP and the debut are head and shoulders above most experimental rock music, and Rembrandt and LAT are definitely among the classics of the style, but the rest of their discography is so boring to me.

Slave System managed to get Sweat Loaf in it's entirety played on a local family radio station recently. Cudos.
