Gary Wilson=Porno Music For Stalkers
Anyone on here dig Gary Wilson? For the uninitiated, here's the deal:
The Story In 1977 Gary Wilson recorded his debut album "You Think You Really Know Me" in his parents' basement in Endicott, New York. It was self-released, got little to no attention at the time and for years it was the only album he ever recorded. But over the years the album's cult status grew and it wound up being a big influence on Beck among others. Some time in the early 00s Peanut Butter Wolf from Stones Throw Records managed to track Gary Wilson down to the porno shop he was working at in L.A. and offered him a record deal. Since then Gary has released two studio albums and a collection of "lost" tracks as well as re-released his debut album. The Music I don't know how you'd describe his music, "experimental porno music" maybe. It sounds a bit like Barry White as sung by greasy-haired loser that lives in his mom's basement and instead of sexy lyrics there are sort of creepy stalker-ish lyrics. Anyway, here are two of his songs for your listening pleasure: "Chromium Bitch" (1977) "Linda Wants To Be Alone" (2004) |
Man this is so damn good and what a story. I gotta get some lovin' :D

Sounds hot and dirty from what little I've heard so far...I likey.
Can't listen to it at work though...I think I'm disturbing my cubicle neighbors with the gratuitous use of the word bitch. Yeah, I think they should get over it too... |

I like it a lot. It's so damn groovy but slightly creepy at the same time. The music is of a much higher quality than you would expect. Great find. I presume you have heard Lovage janszoon?

Well, I gave it a listen just now. It's weirdly likeable and the vocals are so damn disturbing! (in a good way ;))
6.4 = Make Out is the best thing I've heard in a long time . This is electronic, and definitely 80s as well, but doesn't sound all that badly dated. Still early days though, so I'm not really sure whether I liked it or not. Needs another listen me thinks. I'll get back here soon. |
Just giving Mary Had Brown Hair a spin now. It's quite extraordinary, kinda like a 21st century Trout Mask Replica. I'm impressed.

I need to get this.

Deserves more love. Just listening to Mary Had Brown Hair again. It is great!

I still haven't heard the one he just released, Lisa Wants to Talk to You. I curious what it sounds like. Gary Wilson described it as "more mellow and direct" but I'm not really sure what that means.

Or maybe it's a series of messages he left on some poor woman's voicemail... of him jacking off next to a microphone. |
I can just imagine the ad he's reading for his latest sex line call:
