Young Marble Giants
I think, considering the wealth and diversity of musical taste and knowledge on this site, the lack of a Young Marble Giants thread is quite bewildering.
YMG created a sound unlike anything else at the time, minimal to the extreme at times, employing just a bass, ryhtmn guitar and electric organ over a simple drum machine to compliment the sweet, naive voice of Allison Statton. I think they are one of the best, most innovative post-punk bands to emerge from the UK. I'd strongly recommend Colossal Youth to anybody who hasnt become acquainted with them yet, its an exceptional album and one any true music fan should own |
Blimey, good call man. I don't hold Colossal Youth in as high regard as some people but there's no doubting its a gorgeous, delicate little album. I love the singer's voice, simple yet effective.

yeah. brilliant band.
can't wait to see 'em at ATP. |
They're still about? Bloody hell they haven't done well releasing albums have they?
|
haha
i'm not sure what their story is (i've only heard Collossal Youth), but I think they might have re-united recently. Could be totally wrong though, in which case...yeah, not the most prolific band! |
It is a pretty long album though with the re-release extra tracks, we have to give them that
|
There's a live album recorded in 1980 released in 2004 on further research.
I'm not judging them, less material means they get it wrong less! |
I got hold of Colossal Youth a few hours ago. Thoughts to come.
