High Places—s/t Anybody on here heard them? They just released their debut this fall. I got it a week or two ago and am really digging it. The closest point of reference I have for their style is Panda Bear but a lot more spacy and with female vocals. I had a hard time finding anything on YouTube that didn't have horrible sound quality but this little clip should give you a bit of an idea what they're like: |
I,m not replying to this...;)

Just listening to this album now, and it's really one of the bizarre yet brilliant albums I've heard in ages. True, I haven't exactly got that big a music library, but it's quite unlike a lot of stuff I've heard.
Thanks for the post Janszoon - this album's absolute gold :) |

They bored me when I saw them opening for Deerhunter. That said, the girl is pretty cute if I remember right.

PM possible?

Well, a bit late, but I've already listened to this a few times before. From what I remember, I could definitely see the Panda Bear connection, especially with vocals and the unconventional arrangements and they still remain catchy but I feel that at times, they just wander off pointlessly. It's got this innocent, non-provoking kind of feel and has the tendency to slip into this 'background music' category! But the good thing is that it wasn't this typical 'indie-rock-experimental-psychedelic-pop' kind of thing. Felt much different :).

High Places
Has anyone ever heard of High Places before? I just discovered them and downloaded 03/07-09/07, a collection of their first 7" and some other miscellaneous songs. To me, the sound is a calming, relaxing background layer with beautiful female indie pop vocals with chants, world music, and other random sounds layered on top. Their songs sound rather similar to each other, but each is unique in its own way. Pretty neat stuff, recommended to anyone that likes indie pop and psychedelic type music. It reminds me a lot of Beat Happening, but more experimental and psychedelic.
