Scott Walker 30th Century Man
 

I caught this doco over the weekend and found it intriguing to say the least. I only really knew about the Walker Brothers. Scott's musical journey after he left the Walker Brothers made fascinating viewing. I have grabbed The Drift and given it a listen and have found it very dark and foreboding.

A must listen for all avant garde lovers.

I saw this documentary a year or so back. Fascinating stuff - that percussive device he uses in Clara is, erm, interesting :D

The Drift is one of the most gloriously dark musical experiences I've ever had - that bit at the end of the Escape scared the **** out of me! Better than Tilt? Arguably. But, yeah, Tilt, Climate Of the Hunter and the Drift are essential albums

So are Tilt and Climate Of the Hunter of similar style to Drift? I see that there is also an album called Pola X.

I am definitely going to have to explore his latter work.

It's hard to describe any of his latter-day albums, but Tilt is certainly fairly similar to the Drift. Climate Of the Hunter sounds a lot like the first four tracks of Nite Flights (the last Walker Brothers album) over an entire album. I don't have Pola X, but I do know it's a soundtrack to a French movie of the same name. Never seen or heard it though

I've got alot of time for his latter day experimental albums ('Climate of the Hunter' must rank as one of the most shockingly innovative comebacks of all time).
However his 60's albums, 'Scott' through to 'Scott 4' are all definitive chamber pop, but it really kicks off on 'Scott 3'; his monastery sabbatical obviously did wonders for his songwriting. His Jacques Brel versions are also sublime.

Maybe not for everybody but if you liked Alex Turner's side-project the Last Shadow Puppets you really need to get stuck in to Mr.Walker.

Scott 3 is the only album I've listened to completely, but some great singing and orchestration there! The only complaint is that It's a bit too short maybe, but I like almost all the songs.
I only have bits and pieces of his other earlier stuff(mostly scott 4) and might even need to get some more of it.

Not heard his version of Amsterdam or any of his stuff with the Walker Brothers (with the exception of Nite Flights). Definitely on my to-download list though

Just listened to Tilt.
Compelling music! Whether i liked it or not, I'm not sure yet. Need to listen to it another time. Intense and Interesting to say the least. I still haven't grasped what some of these lyrics are about, but it's early days anyways. The wonderful singing and intensity always keeps my head spinning :usehead:. And oh, using headphones and not thinking of something else while listening to this definitely helped :D. So much more different from Scott 3.(well, i guess any artist is bound to change 25 years later)
I'll give it another listen soon.
