no wave
who can recommend/send me some obscure no wave? i could do with some no wave revival, but i'm thinking early 80's nyc.
there's the gang of four included on the controversial no new york brian eno comp: mars dna (arto lindsay is amazing) james chance & the contortions (buy is amazing, i need james white & the blacks) teenage jesus & the jerks (lydia lunch is crazy) then off to the side there's glenn branca's band theoretical girls, who are pretty good as well. glenn branca and rhys chatham go on to do giant orchestral guitar pieces which can't really be termed no wave, i think chatham likes post-minimalism. in any case, that's about all i know. in terms of no wave revival, i really like black eyes and old time relijun. you? |

The Pop Group are on of the best bands i've ever heard, IMO. get the album Y not necessarily no wave but balls to the walls goodness is a band called Bastard Kestrel. . the album oh splendid mushroom is great! Essential Logic are unbelievable!! its got lisa logic from x-ray spex in it but are about a thousand times better in my opinion. not no wave but "This Heat" are really ****ing good. You may know them. if not they are definitely worth a good listen. get the album "Deceit" to start and go from there. hope that does something for you. |
