Heavier Than a Death in the Family is a great start off point I'd say.

One of the better, noisier versions of this song.

On another note, I wonder where Takashi Mizutani is.

Hi Cenotaph ! Good to see that you're posting again. :) I hope life has been treating you well during yr long absence.

On your say-so I'm going to take a look at Las Rallizez Désnudés - let's see if they are as good as some of your previous recommendations.

EDIT: = Yep, I'm just loving Night of the Assasins. Many thanks! :thumb:

Nice to see you too! Life has been all over the place the past few years, but things have settled down (thankfully).

Yea, "Night of the Assassins" is sublime — especially the one from '77 Live (best album to start with, by the way). Their history is fascinating and mysterious as well.

^ Sorry if things have been difficult for you - here's hoping that things will remain settled for a while.

Yes, thanks, the '77 Live album is the one I'm looking at, though my enthusiasm has been tested a bit with the Flames of Ice track; that's a lot of noise going on!
PS: will be checking up on their history

I'm kind of sad that no one seems to give a **** (or even know) that Mizutani had passed away a couple years ago. For awhile, it seemed like all of the edgy art school kids would constantly talk about them in the music groups I was a part of, but I haven't seen ****ing anyone acknowledge that the man behind the whole thing was gone.

Well, the way that Mizutani pretty much acted for most of the last part of his life,
he would probably be happy that few people know or care. He spent so much of
his time cultivating his “mystique” instead of playing his damn music that he
pretty much committed a kind of slow-mo dissolution of his career. He wouldn’t
answer phone calls and you had to fax to get a message to him. When his
bandmate’s wife died, Mizutani refused to go to the funeral. Some thought that it
might have something to do with his bass player’s ‘70s hijacking - wanting to lay low -
but it appears that it was just his delight for intrigue.

That cultivation of a dark reclusive attitude coupled with a constant self-imposed
competition with Haino pretty much put him in a well of pity that ultimately was
detrimental to his health. I read that he pretty much wasn’t able to walk the last
months of his life. Still, looking forward to the box set being released - especially
on the strength of “White Awakening.”

I would love to get that box set, but I'll keep a healthy bit of skepticism about actually seeing it released, but hey, Gero came back with an amazing album out of nowhere.

Kind of sad though, from what I read he wasn't opposed to doing a few a shows in America due to their popularity, but a few months after he said that he apparently passed away.
