Definitely. It's a brilliant documentary I have to say and opened my eyes even more to the essence of music.

I don't know how I missed Krautrock all this time. Love it!
I have some extensive work to do in that department.

***contains spoilers***
It was a good introduction considering all the diverse stories and musicians they managed to cram in, but it felt rushed and I think it deserves a meaty 3-part documentary a la 'Prog Britannia' (you could get a good hour out of the story of Faust alone)... still, great to see some key figures interviewed, I think part of 'krautrock's appeal all along has been the elusiveness and mystery of it. So is this the very first documentary dedicated to Krautrock, surely it can't be? Favourite parts were: Michael Rother comparing music to water and the thing they did there with a Neu! track, perfection. Iggy's surprise appearance, good to see him power-drilling a coconut and talking about some nice music. |

Do I get cool points because I saw it when it originally aired on BBC4?
It was a really interesting documentary, Shame it wasn't longer really I would have liked to have seen a bit more music footage.

Yeah I watched the original airing too and immediately grabbed the Harmonia album. Top stuff.

So I'm currently waiting for the damn youtube videos to load. It's taking forever but I'm down to parts 5 and 6. Anyway, this is the best music doc I've seen in a long time. Also, I printed out the pdf of Julian Cope's book today at..home.
I've read the preface and 1st chapter. Never read his writing before - liking his style a lot.

That documentary was really good. I never really went on a krautrock spree, but I do have Tago Mago (Can), Neu!, Faust, and Phaedra (Tangerine Dream).
Does anyone know any good Popol Vuh or Amon Duul II records? They really intrigued me in the videos. What I mean to say is, if I could get one from each then which should I get? Last edited by Inuzuka Skysword; 11-09-2009 at 04:45 PM. |
