Stars Of the Lid
Thanks to Frewen for getting me into these. Best descibed as ambient drone, they make some of the most beautiful music I have heard for a while. There music is ripe for sombre film soundtracks. Their sound is very minimalist but I'm blown away. As usual with all my posts PM is your friend.

So are you saying that Refinement...Decline actually was worth my while?
I spent months dithering over whether or not to buy that album last summer. |
I only have THE TIRED SOUNDS OF, and I'm instantly transfixed. Not for everyone though.

Glad you enjoyed them jackhammer. If you like them, two albums by other albums are worth mentioning: Brian McBride's When The Detail Lost Its Freedom and The Dead Texan (s/t) which features Adam Wiltzie. And I'd agree that their music is an acquired taste, but can't complain too much, as their music got me through writing my dissertation last year ^.^

I love their new album, which was definitely one of the top 10 from 2007. That's still the only one I've heard tho.
|
Love all Stars Of The Lid stuff, as well as Brian McBride's solo thing. Really beautiful.
Also GravitySlips your avatar is a seriously great album. |
quite lovely, they remind me of someone but it got lost on the tip of my toungue. I'll edit this post at like 3 am tonight when i'm sure it will come to me
|
Yeah, S of the L sound amazing. I usually don't even like that type of stuff.
|
They're touring Britain, in May i think. I'll be seeing them!
|
I'm going to see them at the end of April...heard they're live show is spellbinding
|
Really
That new album is Melodic Ambient (ala Eno) at it's absolute, all-time best. |
Probably my favorite proprietors of the ambient/drone/minimalist genre. Their discography is amazing to soak yourself in from time to time, in some cases (ie. Refinement/Ballasted Orchestra) more than that.
|
Sometimes I sit and my room and cry to their refinement of the decline
