Tortoise
I don't really think I need to say much about them. What's everyones favorite albums and etc? Mine is Millions Now Living Will Never Die is my favorite and I think my favorite song off that is either Djed or The Taut and Tame. Discusss.

I only have their self titled album :(. It is a good album though.
|
I liked TNT a lot, my least favorite album they did was that collaboration with The Ex for In the Fish Tank, I didn't think the two bands meshed well together.
|
TNT, the self titled and Millions Now Living are all awesome, and the rest ain't half bad either. Great to chill out and relax to.
|
They honestly make me want to go listen to Slint (who I missed seeing play Spiderland live for very dumb reasons) but Millions Now Living Will Never die is a really badass album. I have some sort weird attraction to the album art for it too.
|
This is the first time ive ever heard of them, so just gave them a little listen, and i wasnt particularly impressed or anything
|
I went to go see them do a live show to a screening of Nosferatu but I got there and the theater was full. That was a bitch, but I'll probably see them eventually.
|
1. TNT
1.5 that 3 disc, unreleased stuff comp 2. Standards 3. Millions Now Living... 4. It's All Around You 5. Tortoise |
Millions Now Living Will Never Die is probably my favorite album with "Taut and Tame" being my favorite of their songs.
|
TNT then standards.
cardboard adolescent - you will NOT regret seeing this band live (actually no one in this thread will). i caught a show a few years ago and it was nuts. they're so different from most other bands i've seen it was a real treat to see them pull it off live. so much percussion on stage hehehe it was great. |
is A Lazarus Taxon a compilation of EPs or is it just a plain-old best-of collection?
i got TNT the other day and it's fantabulous. now i'm getting more. just wondering if i should get this one too... |
A Lazarus Taxon is more of a rarities, out-of-print collection.
The next you should get after TNT is Standards. It's danceable, unlike TNT, which was more sit on your bed and let your imagination run wild kinda album. |
ok thanks, i'll grab Lazarus too then.
i'm listening to It's All Around You right now. these guys rock! it's such unusual music, but at the same time it's very easy to listen to. i find myself nodding my head to every beat. what fun :) |
Tnt
ja Lazarus is great too
|
:pssst: Their new one, Beacons of Ancestorship, comes out June 23.

It was actually supposed to come out April 21, but earlier this week I did some digging, because I hadn't heard of an official title, and found the info on the Thrill Jokey site.
|
Millions Now Living Will Never Die is great. "Djed" is absolutely entrancing. I really enjoy their self-titled and TNT too, but I haven't much to say about their newest album.
|
I've listened to Millions Now Will Never Die and LOVED it. Djed is God. Gonna get some more of their stuff, been meaning to for a while now...
|
ever since i've heard about Tortoise i've heard about how mind blowingly awesome Djed is supposed to be. i've got 4-5 albums, i've seen them in concert, i'd LOVE to see them again, i even have stuff from some of their side projects. but i've only ever been able to get through Djed once. it's just so boring to my ears. i know it gets critical acclaim and it and its album are normally recommended and name dropped as the group's best offering but i just don't see it. Glass Museum is what makes the album worth it for me.
also, they're not the kind of band to rest on their laurels so expect new directions on every subsequent album but do check them out. |
I'd cite Millions Now Living Will Never Die as their most accomplished work.
|
Standards and TNT are the standout albums for me and my favourite always seems to alternate between the two depending on my mood.
