The post-rock approach to music, including emphasis on instrumental work and sound textures, is similar to the earlier New Age movement, which came out of the modern folk tradition.

Lyrics are often omitted from post-rock music, however this does not necessarily mean vocals are always absent. Some post-rock bands employ vocals as an instrument, incidental to the overall sound, rather than the more traditional use where clean, interpretable vocals are important for poetic and lyrical meaning. Post-rock vocals are usually soft and droning, and can be infrequent or present in irregular intervals. Jessica Bailiff is a good example of this style of droning vocals. Sigur Rós, a band known for their distinctive vocals, have even fabricated a language which they call 'Hopelandic', described by the band as "a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument"

that was taken from Wikipedia, written by post-rock fans to describe the genre. Sigur Ros are post-rock because of their structure and atmosphere, minimalistic musicianship and soundscapes.

i was just saying theres better stuff. Jeniferever and Gregor Samsa are both vocal, atmospheric post-rock bands and far superior IMO.

Man, I still think boxing artists in sucks ass. These guys, to me anyway, don't seem to conform to post-rock, well they do, but they also could be called so many other genres. Genres suck!

i didnt say it to box in sigur ros.. they box themselves in, though its a very very open box.

anyway, yes genres suck, but theyre useful to describe music. saying 'theres better post-rock' is far easier than saying 'theres better bands that do a similar kind of thing'..

Though of all the post rock bands i have heard, i still like Sigur Ros the most.

I have heard of them, I know they are a very interesting post-rock band, but I havent listened to them. I hope to soon, as I love that kind of music :)

amazing icelandic dream band. sometimes sing in another language. check them out. tell me what you think. im having a hard time to comprehend their beauty.

good, but slightly overrated band - there are better bands of a similar style out there.
