Streaming Kveikur on Spotify at the moment. It's certainly a big departure from Valtari and seems more straightforward and song-focused. There's some interesting stuff going on but I can tell this one will require a few more listens to get the full picture.
Anyone listen to it yet?

'Rafstraumur' is a truly amazing tune. However the album isn't entirely consistent and a couple of songs don't do much for me. But when it hits it's stride on songs like 'Rafstraumur' it reminds you of what the band is capable of. It feels very short for a Sigur Ros album and lacks the epicness of ( ) or Takk, but you can tell that's not what they're going for. Overall certainly not disappointing.

Just listened to Takk. For once I'm impressed with Sigur Ros. Very impressed.

Has anyone seen those new Mermaid programs on Animal Planet?
Instrumental versions of songs by Sigur Ros are being used. I was like "WHY DO I KNOW THIS" ;P |

They also contributed music to a recent episode of The Simpsons, including a version of the theme song!
I haven't checked the new record out yet but I will be doing so. I liked the one they put out last year. |

I like this album, lots of great tracks. However, I felt like it had a similar energy, aggressiveness, weight as ( ) - but without the same soulful wholesomeness. I like the sound that they went for, but it seemed a little less inspired than other albums. That being said, Rafstraumur and the first half of Brennistein are perfect. I enjoyed Hrafntinna a lot, too.
I don't know if I'm ready to toss a rating to it yet, though. |
