Not the most friendly band... It seems like Jon really resents the whole "Hopelandic" thing.

well i've given them a thorough listen, and here's my conclusion:
Von - 2.5 / 5 Ágætis Byrjun - 4.5 / 5 () - 3 / 5 Takk - 3.5 / 5 Hvarf/Heim - 4 / 5 Međ Suđ... - 4 / 5 i dig it! |
you gave med sud more than takk?
listen to takk again. it's often better than agaetis. not as sonicaly impressive, but in terms of balance and diversity. |

yeah i know, i am swimming against the current here. i just find () to be a bit boring, that's all. the sound is really monotonous, and not much happens.
Takk is a good album, maybe 3.5 is a bit harsh. but it has several tracks on it i really don't like, which kind of spoils things for me. though Hoppípolla is perhaps my favourite of all their songs! the reason Međ Suđ is way up there is because it's faster and bolder than the rest. i guess die-hard fans don't like this departure from their usual style, but really, taken as a work unto itself, without worrying about the rest of their stuff, it's really quite nice. plus it fits better into my general shuffle than the lazy songs from their previous work... |
I find most of their albums to be a mix of really great songs, and really boring songs. My favourite is probably ()

But when you're home one day with nothing to do for about two hours, listen to Takk... again. I used to dismiss it after Hoppipolla, but if you listen to it from beginning to end, you get to see how each song plays off the one that came right before. They do a fantastic job of making it atmospheric and engaging, which was a problem in Agaetis which was just atmospheric. and I agree with ( ). It's impossible for me to listen to it from beginning to end. It's either I listen to the first four tracks or the last four tracks. |
