Well, a short rest spot might have been okay, and I could see why it would be there, but Softest Voice just goes on for far too long in my opinion. One of the great things about AC is that they know how to switch things around, to place a breather exactly where it's needed after a sugary rush, but in this case I just think they forgot to switch back. And while I love the lyrics of College, for me it just does not work on a dynamic level.
Anyways, it's not like it's a bad album. I like everything they've done other than Campfire Songs. When you work with dynamics and stretching peoples patience, there is a fine line between genius and boring. Between lulling people into a calm and then jolting them back into action. Or just sort of lulling them into a calm... But it is a very fine album. I just prefer the other ones.
