Yaaay, I get to be part of the hype for an album. Finally!
So I'm listening to the album as I type, and so far what I can say is it's very... Avey. It reminds me a lot of Down There so far. I know panda as sampler-abuser (in a good way) with surf-rock vocal melodies. I know Avey for the off-the-wall synth effects and slow drums (plus stuff that isn't in this, but that's beside the point). Untying the Knot just came on and I kinda want to... I don't know, just do something awesome. But yeah, this seems to really be focusing more on sound texturing than Noah's other, rhythm focused stuff. I can definitely see this as an evolution of him as an artist, even if it's kinda subtle. (though I dunno how subtle it really is... I see people comparing Slasher Fics to Centipede Hz so I might be looking at it differently...) Also I'm currently hearing "Baby fish that swim in the sea" a lot right now. I love this. Can't wait for the album~ |

Another new song (and video) from Panda Bear's new album. Good song, cool video!
I'd love to have a job making music videos.

All I know about this group is that I knew a really nice kid once who told me that one of their albums was the "crown jewel" of his record collection and it was kind of adorable to watch him fanboy over it.
Maybe sometime I'll see what the fuss is all about.

And the Fall Be Kind EP. Thing about Animal Collective, at least since MPP and Person Pitch they seem to have found a nice compromise between being "weird/alternative" and "commerical/pop" IMO. If you like weird stuff you'll prefer them prior to MPP. If you prefer more commercial/pop stuff you'll like them MPP and since. But if you REALLY dislike weird/alternative stuff you probably won't like either. This IMO is the most fascinating song since South Side of the Sky by Yes. Brings tears to my eyes, frankly.

Scroll ahead to about 1 hour, 26 minutes for Sequential Circuits, the opening track:

Panda Bear's latest is pretty good, probably between a 3.5 and a 4 for me. Really digging the song "Tropic of Cancer". I must admit, I was hoping for something closer to Person Pitch.
