Spinning on Air is a live radio session type thing.

Their new album is decent but the track For Reverend Green is one of the top 5 songs of the year. Such a powerful song.

Ok, I saw them live last night and it was rather amazing. But seeing as how I only recognized 3 songs from a 2 hour set, I went to search for their discography and to my great surprise found out that Feels actually isn't their debut but rather the SIXT album.... Holy shit...

So, anyone familiar with their earlier stuff (anything before Feels)? How does it compare to Feels and Strawberry Jam?

it's a lot less accessible, but i enjoy the earlier stuff more because of that. prospect hummer is excellent. i think it's by far their best work, thanks a lot to vashti bunyan.

i think it's maybe all similar enough that if you like strawberry jam a lot, you'd probably dig all of their older stuff with some effort. you'll get a lot more of the hypnotic droning repititions than in the newer stuff, and even in songs like "#1", where this beautiful melody just comes running out of the monotonous intro, you won't find that a lot in the older stuff. instead it just keeps moaning and moaning and then before you know it you're listening to something that sounds completely different than you were five minutes ago, but you have no idea when anything changed.

I never really took to Animal Collective up through Sung Tongs. But then I heard Feels and thought it was a masterpiece. Really one of the best pop albums I've heard in the last few years. I also found Strawberry Jam to be very enjoyable, if not quite as strong as Feels.

I still don't really get much out of pre-Feels Animal Collective.

Also, Panda Bear's Person Pitch is gorgeous. On par with Feels as a masterpiece.

Panda Bear I think makes better music than Animal Collective. That Panda Bear album is just completely right in all ways.
