Is Tunnel Blanket supposed to be a departure from their older sound?

Heard there's a big emphasis on drones/ambiance. Think of an entire album with tunes like "Villa Del Refugio" except with a darker, brooding sound and some excellent drum work thrown in.

That's at least what I'm hoping to get out of it.

There's a pretty great new bootleg out there of their recent gig. I can send link for you if you want to. They play alot of stuff from Tunnel Blanket. I can honestly say that their new sound is so much better than their earlier stuff. Just really great drone/ambient.

If you would, that'd be great! I'm interested in hearing what I'm in for. I've been a fan of these guys since their self-titled was released and have been anticipating Tunnel Blanket for the past year.

aye, said bootleg clearly proves above all else the potential fer this new record of twdy's. i mean, if yr actually able to hear the clean guitar soars and not just the (albeit great) drummin it'll likely wind up being great regardless.

the shortened "Villa Del Refugio" hurt my heart.

I just started getting into post-rock a couple years ago and since then I've discovered some great bands. I find it a bit odd that most players of the genre don't necessarily like it- they wanted to do more marketable music but just kinda fell into the instrumental category. Anyway, the bands that I like the most are:

(In no particular order)

Explosions In The Sky
This Will Destroy You
Signal Hill (who as far as I know haven't been mentioned yet on this thread)
Saxon Shore
Tristeza
The Album Leaf
Mono
El Ten Eleven
Sigur Ros
Mogwai
My Dad Vs Yours (who I also haven't noticed on this thread; I didn't read it all though)

For example, whom?

Maybe I shouldn't have said "most" but I know for a fact that This Will Destroy You said in an interview that they aren't exactly fans of instrumental music. The reason they're instrumental is because (according to them) none of them can sing and also because when they play it doesn't sound like anything is missing. I've seen/read interviews with other instrumentalists who also say that they don't listen to the type of music they play- Greg Howe for example.

I guess Crippled Black Phoenix would be considered post-rock. Their debut album, A Love of Shared Disasters, is a wonderful album. Someone mentioned Slint above too. They're fairly decent even though I don't understand why some people consider them math rock.
