Post-Rock Thread (albums, discography, review, quote, youtube)

I bought another album, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever, by Explosions in the Sky. It was only my second Explosions in the Sky record, but I loved it very thoroughly. Greet Death is really great, I loved it as an opener; it's a really powerful track. Yasmin the Light was really great too. In fact, I loved the whole album from top to bottom.

I have a few more that I'm planning on buying actually.

Happy Songs for Happy People - Mogwai
All is Violent, All is Bright - God is an Astronaut
Finally We Are No One - Mum
Winter Hymn, Country Hymn, Secret Hymn - Do Make Say Think
One Time for All Time - 65daysofstatic
Lift your Skinny Fists like Antennas to the Sky - Godspeed

I have a few other choices in mind (like a Sigur Ros soundtrack, the Zidane soundtrack, and an Amiina album), but these seem to be my primary choices right now. I'm probably going to buy 4 of them within a week or two, and I know for certain I'm getting Finally We Are No One and All is Violent, All is Bright. I heard the first track off of All is Violent, All is Bright and was completely blown away. I need that record.

Anyways, does anyone have suggestions as to what the other two I pick should be? I think I'm leaning towards Happy Songs for Happy People and Winter Hymn, Country Hymn, Secret Hymn, but I'm not certain.

I would go for 65daysofstatic but they can be heavy too and that may not be your thing.

Over Happy Songs for Happy People or the Do Make Say Think record?

I like them both too but I'm thinking 65 for something a little different from the usual Post Rock sound.

Actually I meant which one of the two do you think should be put down, the Mogwai album or the Do Make Say Think album? I think I'm possibly more inclined to get the Do Make Say Think album because I don't have any of their music yet, and I have two Mogwai albums. I have heard that Happy Songs for Happy People is possibly their best album though, so that's why I'm torn.

I'm actually also unsure of which Múm record to get. I want one with Kristín still in the band, and I'm leaning towards Finally We Are No One, but considering I have no listening history with the band, I'm more or less picking at random. Anyone familiar with them that has a suggestion?

Put down the Do Make Say Think album for now. As for 'Mum': I have'nt heard anything by them at all.

I guess I'm not even sure if they're "post-rock" to be honest. They seem to have some similar qualities, and they're actually somewhat compared to Sigur Ros, but I'm not sure where they really lie genre wise.

I got a bunch of new music from a friend yesterday, a lot of new post-rock type material. He gave me a couple Mum records, some M83 (I think one of their albums is generally considered post-rock), Efterklang (which I think have post-rock elements), and some 65daysofstatic. I'll have to listen to them all and put some thoughts up later.

I looked into more post-rock groups and came up with a couple more names, like Caspian, This Will Destroy You and Joy Wants Eternity. Is anyone familiar with those groups?

i've always found This Will Destroy you to be kind of boring, but then again i tend to lean towards more experimental post-rock.

Capsian is sick for sure though.

on a side note, ...Of Sinking Ships is epic.
