Where's the appreciation for Jessamine, Labradford, Laika, Main, Jim O'Rourke, and Ui. Somehow, some of my favorite post-rock/experimental bands were left off. Nonetheless, some great bands have already been mentioned.

They have extremely eerie videos. Can depress anyone. Good band though.

No one mentioned russian circles or cult of luna yet?!
Check out Russian circles - Enter & Cult Of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway, The Beyond, Eternal Kingdom(Their 2008 release). All are excellent albums. Nice thread though...discovered quite a few lesser known post-rock bands. |

It's the easiest bracket to put them into. You could easily replace that with Film Soundtracks as a lot of post rock uses the same deconstructionial soundscapes prevalent on many soundtracks. I personally cannot stand the term 'Post Rock' and would much prefer to use something like 'Ambient Rock' but the tag has already stuck!

If that makes you feel happier then go for it! I still much prefer 'Ambient' which is what it exactly is. Maybe the terms 'Ambient' and 'Rock' are so diameterically opposed that people are afraid to use them together. It is usually music that you chill out to that is played within a traditional rock set up!
