I wouldn't mind some linkage when you have waded through them all please. I only have one album

Could you let me know which ones are reeally worth listening to because I absolutely love some Sun Ra and some of it I could definitely do without.

If I had had a choice I would have started with Space Is the Place, but that's just me
and also Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra from the 60's, there are two volumes to that and I can't remember which album is better. edit: this one but they are two of the more well-known and high-fidelity recordings (my favourite album sounds like it was recorded with the huge band crammed into a stuffy basement).... And they are representative of his avant-garde sound whilst still having a slightly accessible jazz edge to ease you into his world. I think Last edited by Molecules; 03-17-2009 at 12:50 PM. |

Yeah man I dig Heliocentric Worlds... I own that one and love it. I will check out Space Is The Place. I think I've heard it before and enjoyed most of it.

the already mentioned "Cosmic tones for mental therapy" from the early 1960s (which includes primitive psychedelic/dub effects on some tracks, plus there's one called "Moon dance" that has one of the funkiest basslines of all time) and "Strange celestial road" from 1979 ("I'll wait for you" - which took up the whole of side 2 of the original album - is a particularly awesome workout for the Arkestra). if you like those then there's several hundred other albums you can choose from.... |

I just downloaded 61 of his albums from a torrents. I listened to a Fireside chat with Satan. I've watched parts of the Joyful Noise Sunra Documentary, so I know that alot of music can be much more experimental. But overall I really liked it and am looking foward to going through more of his albums. I think I may skip over to the albums that many of you reccomended. Space is the Place is definately on the top of my list on albums to listen to. Heliocentric Worlds.

After having a quick listen - I'd definitely put it in experimental...
I like it up to now, horrible recording quality on their myspace though. Any chance you could upload a better version?
