I wouldn't really call it avant-garde (though I guess it was in a sense) but one thing is for sure, it's an amazing record.
To think I had my opinion set on the band with Tweez. I didn't really think much of post-rock at the time, nor had I listened to much of it, but I played this on a whim, and was thoroughly impressed. Certainly one of the greats.

It's always there for me. Dunno if that makes sense, not that I can put it on whenever I can't thing of anything else (although that actually holds up), it just makes me feel real nice and comfortable that this album exists.

An amazing band, I wouldn't consider it experimental either though, it's very methodical and mapped out. It doesn't have the chaos that I feel like is necessary. However their use of weird ass tonality is probably kind of "avant-garde" to some.

I like the aesthetic intentions/vibe of the album. There are songs that I genuinely love, like Good Morning Captain. As for the whole album - I kind of get what it's about, but it just isn't my cup of tea overall. That doesn't discredit the amount of work put into constructing it though.
But then again maybe I just haven't listened enough. |

Wow, with time this grew on me more than I thought an album could... I mean I've teared up listening to "Washer" and not many songs can do that. It's been top 5 material for a few months now.

I wouldn't sacrifice Don, Amon or Washer. Both those go into my Top 10 of all time.
