Nah, your just missing my point, which is that there's a system, it's not bothering anyone, and you would like it rearranged to your liking. I can understand things like tapatalk for mobile phones, etc., but an upgrade and all the other little things that domino effect along with it would be a $200+ cost. I doubt Lech is gonna pony that up for you. I admire your tenacity though.

Well, Plankton. I would like to trim the forums a bit. I see other forums like Hoffman and vinyl collective. They don't have this bloat. Now, I'm not saying we should copy them, but I'd argue that there are rational reasons why you might wanna cut down on the bloat and aim for more of a simple, streamlined experience and a little less of a deserted maze filled with old fossils.
I also would like to feel like this place was somehow a little more alive and dynamic and not just a stagnating snapshot of the past. Who knows, it might inspire someone to do another little thing and maybe that leads to yet another little thing. You wanna compare this to someone with ocd rearranging books in a library. Fine. I don't find it a particularly good analogy. It seems like just another way to discredit a good idea (imo) in a derogatory manner. But, you know. That's fine. You do you. |

Can I add a category to your list when you get this going, or are we all just subjected to yours? Can we vote on all of this? Is that fine? I'm fine. How are you?
lol Get a grip fella's. It's just a forum. Merry Christmas. |
Sure, I tossed something out there in part to get a discussion going.
If someone could figure out two or three music forum themes to cover everything music and that could coexist without much overlap.. That would be great. |
Is this a homework assignment?
|
Maybe just enjoy the forum as is and just call it good, tore. I know what you think you're doing is useful but when it really boils down to how most of the people use this forum, it just doesn't make sense to worry about it. I reiterate my point that it rarely if ever deters me from enjoying my time here. No reason to take this stuff all that seriously. I like this place because it's just a fun place to come hangout. Also if you don't like the theme, put your browser in dark mode. It turns the theme into something much easier on the eyes. Hell it even looks cooler.

I don't think it was an extension I think in the settings on Google Chrome there's an option for viewing browser in dark mode and it will force all the websites that you view on your browser to go in dark mode sometimes it can reverse colors and they look a little odd but nothing crazy or even noticeable most of the time. otherwise I don't usually have many issues with it. It's just easier on the eyes. My settings on my mobile browser has the same thing. It's just called "dark mode" and views all websites in dark mode.

Providing a forum is easy. The hard thing to get is a community. Without one, this site is nothing and it's also something Lech doesn't own and can't feasibly replace if lost. It's a huge leverage the MB community has in dealing with Advameg, but it's never been wielded. Instead, we're just acting like the perfect flock of self-policing sheep.
|
|
Power to the sheeples.

Ok, so I feel like I'm in on the ground floor here when the revolution comes, so I have my list of demands for change:
1. A section dedicated to Mike Varney and Shrapnel Records, which particularly highlights Tony McAlpine, Paul Gilbert, and Joey Tafola and the influence they've had on K-Pop and American sub-cultures. |

By the way, do you ever post in the actual music forums or do you just come on here to bitch about how the forum is run? |
Quote:
You may find the analogy condescending, but consider it. If any one of us get too rowdy in any way, he or she gets quieted by one or more other members. From Advameg's point of view, the MB community as a whole doesn't make much in the way of demands, is well behaved and requires little to no maintenance. All the while creating content and enough activity to generate visitors and some income from ad clicks. It's a relationship where we're working for Advameg, especially the mods, and they have the luxury of giving us basically nothing in return for the last 10-15 years. It just doesn't sit right with me. |
Now your gettin it.
The only reason I'm here is because it's a familiar distraction, and I try not to expose too much of myself for exploitation. I'm just here to have a bit of fun, thats it. It's not a job, and it's not something I sink any effort into trying to make better so Lech can squeeze out a few more pennies. |

What happens of course is that when Guybrush posts in the music threads these days, the response is limited. A thread like this one, though, generates a lot of chat, so he's more visibly active: like most of us, he's got caught up in an up-and-running debate, while his -and our- music-forum posts so often languish without much attention. |

And if we could pressure Advameg just a little bit, we might finally establish definitely once and for all whether or not they're ever going to do anything for MB. That could inform various healthy decisions regarding stuff like the community's future or for those who invest a lot like Trollheart and mods and the work they put in. |
Why would we even say relatively huge?
|
We also don't ask for much. If I knew what the vbulletin update did, I would request it. I've asked Guybrush so many times at this point that I'm pretty sure he doesn't know, so it'll remain unrequested.
Basically it's largely not advameg, your ideas are just mid and you need to come to terms with that. |

Edit: Googled it for you: https://www.vbulletin.com/en/overview https://www.vbulletin.com/en/features#forum See f.ex: Category-leading mobile optimization The integrated mobile-optimized version ensures smartphone visitors will stay longer and return. |
I don't know how much experience GB has with the vB software or even databases for that matter, but it is a bit of a lengthy process, and I'm guessing we're still on 4 or maybe even 3. The most noticeable change for the end user would be better support for mobile devices and tablets.

I'll think about it. Maybe they can help you out with better understanding what you're advocating for as well.
