Like 30 bucks? I'd do it. I'm sure many would.

Edit:

One could also set up a patreon or something so more could chip in.

More power to you. Not me. At least, not until we have some kind of consensus about how we want to proceed moving forward. I don't think we're there yet.

The worst part, as others have pointed out, about losing this place is losing the history. If we're just going to start from scratch, I don't know which evil is lesser - using a free forum hosted by some other company or spinning up our own custom one and having the fate be in the hands of (likely) one person - and banking that they'd maintain interest and pay recurring domain/hosting fees.

A problem that grows bigger every day and will make it hurt more when this site suddenly goes offline.

I agree, I'm not opposed to moving or your approach. I'd just want everyone to be on board and in agreement with what we want to do. I don't want to move to a new/replacement forum and have some kind of fracture of our loyal, albeit small userbase.

And we'd want to have some way for any returning members who aren't here frequently to know where we've gone if they log back on here after being gone for months - a pinned thread? Some kind of hacked up mod-created header message? I don't know - but how will, Dr. Rezz for example, know where to look for us when he comes back for his semi-annual trolling?

I guess my point is, whatever we decide to do, it would be nice to have consensus or at least a quorum and to do it all with due consideration. I think thus far, Marie is the only mod that's provided any input into these discussions. It would be nice to know Frown and Exo's thoughts as well.

One other thing Marie mentioned, in regards to a mod strike idea - if the mods here moved over to a new forum at least in a regular user capacity, and most of our regulars moved over there to begin colonizing our new frontier - and we wanted this site to stay up in some kind of interim capacity to allow others to have a chance to know where we've gone - then our MB mods would need to continue maintaining this site to prevent spambots from making it unusable - so that others would know where to find us. Again, to your point, if we had some kind of official presence elsewhere (like a twitter account or some other social media), then we'd have an alternative way to communicate that - but unfortunately, since this kind of presence isn't established, doing so now wouldn't help current members who have been absent for some time (like Lucem Ferre) because they wouldn't be aware of its existence. These problems are by no means insurmountable or an excuse to not do anything because that's easier, but they should be considered.

Yeah I don't care.

You could perhaps set up a system with admin on top and moderators below that could perhaps manage areas like web design, social media presence, competitions / events manager, whatever.

Big decisions could be put to a vote to the rest of the community.

As for this place, just leave sticky thread in every forum with capital letters in their titles telling everyone where we are.

Yeah there would be much discord, you're right.

Oh. I see.

Well isn't that pretty limited though? Kind of a chatbox/Bookface thing?

I think he means in terms of communicating what we'd do for a proper replacement if this thing went kaput, not that Discord would be a direct replacement. I forgot about discord (because I don't use it)
