Great idea to establish a back-up site, Trollheart. Well done.
I like that it has such a simple, easy to understand format, and personally I liked the dirty colour you started with: it looked as if every web-page had been dropped into the River Liffey by accident before being fished out and hung up to dry on the internet. Still, if blue's popular, that's fine by me too.

Darn - I missed the dirty color. :(

Thanks for providing a sanctuary for us, TH. Just registered - and I like your "sock puppet" rule. :)

You're very welcome. Glad to have you aboard.

Yeah that was the plan. Still, majority rules I guess.

I did try creating a forum more from scratch (bloody CPanels!) but I hadn't enough tech knowledge (ie none) and couldn't get it to work. Solution? Get to a place where someone has done all the work for you and all you have to do is move the blocks around.

I'll try to get a special showing just for you, love. I'll let you know as soon as it's ready.

I suggest with contingency in place, contact Advameg and ask for an upgrade to the forum software so it can f.ex. get some spambot defense which isn't from 2003.

If they don't respond, moderators should go on a strike or at least refrain from cleaning up spam.

If they pull the plug, move to contingency plan :D

I'm sceptical about the strike thing. I don't think the admin will care and if there's a spam wave it will make the forum almost unusable

Yeah I'm writing about the UK miners strike in 1984/5. I can just see the powers that be bringing in a load of bloody strikebreakers: Russian and Chinese kids sitting in huge offices posting every minute about pre-arranged and state pre-approved topics, arguing for the decadence of music and the glory of the Party. I'm not sure I want to see that here. And what about if they bring in the army? Can you imagine it?
Dude, have you heard the latest song by Status Quo: "In the Army Now"?

Dude that's decades old!

Dude I have the new M46 Killathon automatic minority-seeking rifle: you wanna correct me?

Sorry dude. Man I only have the M44. What's it like?

Oh dude it's sweet. The rate of fire...

[MOD] Please remove this discussion to the appropriate thread. The Party has no use for diversity. The Party is all. Praise the Party.

You really wanna see that? :yikes:

The community at large here has always opted for keeping the status quo, seemingly opting for the devil they know rather than take any risk.

For myself, hosting a forum isn't magic. It's not hard and doesn't have to be expensive. The community are the posters, not this blue and outdated junk from 2003. Moving could open up a lot of new exciting possibilities. Staying is slow death.

I like MB a lot, but it's only getting duller as the years go by. Take a risk, people.

I think we spoke about this before. Forums are dying anyway, the advantage of this one I guess is that it has a vast library of discussions that potentially keeps new people signing up (every now and then they stay and contribute). Back in the golden days of forums I've joined more than one and have seen the majority die because of lack of activity.

How do you make sure a new forum succeeds in attracting new people?

Not sure, but the musicbanter community could have a presence on various social medias if that's your thing and perhaps some place or way to tie it all together. Maybe someone could find musicbanter from Instagram

A more phone optimized forum and features like notification when someone tags you could be nice. It might not make more people discover the site, but maybe it helps up activity or make people stay.
