The Handling of Personal Attacks Going Forward
Hey everybody,
The mod team and I have been doing some talking about the landscape that's been observed over the last few months. I'm sure everybody has noticed that there seems to be a lot more personal attacks being thrown around lately. I don't have to name names. We're all thinking of them, but there are more than just those 2-3 that have either been attacked themselves or have gotten out of line. The following is word for word our rules about how members are supposed to behave on this forum. I've highlighted the things I will talk further about. Quote:
Personal Attacks - Seems to be the go-to option when in a heated debate/pissy fit with somebody lately. We are no longer a large community. We have grown smaller and more isolated. Personal info is becoming more common due to some of us being friends and also because it's nice to fill people in of life events since most of us have known each other for the better part of a decade(Even longer in some cases). Using this personal info to insult somebody is NOT to be tolerated anymore. Discretion will be used of course but these types of personal attacks have no place here and the mod team, I admit, has been a bit lenient on such events. Family members will not be brought into arguments to hurt another member. Personal hardships will not be used to hurt other members. No more. Discretion, again, will be used. For example... Batlord calls me fat. I retort by telling him he has no friends. We've joked about this with each other for a long time. It's a joke between us. This will not be seen as personal attacks. We're still allowed to have fun around here. It'll be more obvious when this rule is broken. I just don't want you guys to think we're going to suck the fun out of throwing some light jabs out there. This isn't the case. You all know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the things that go too far. Those end now. Purposeless Inflammatory Posts - This is a bit less of an issue but occasionally I see something said on here, not aimed at a particular member, but made with the sole purpose to piss somebody off. These posts will be deleted and warnings given out. Punishment Bans will be given to those who throw out personal attacks. Repeat offenses will receive longer ban lengths and may result in a perma-ban. Be fucking nice to each other. We are ALL going through hardships, bouts of this and that, rough times, etc... We are ALL living lives. We're humans. Most of us are friends. I'm tired of seeing down right nasty sh*t being thrown at each other. 98% of us are adults. If somebody disagrees with you, do NOT go for the throat with personal sh*t. It's over. Thank You. -- The Mod Team |
Might I suggest locking this so this thread doesn't become an ironic form of itself?

Fair nuf. I'm all for it tbf. The people here are why I came back and wanted to try again. It's a good community. We can agree on that I'm sure.

I admit I'm guilty of some of this and am way too easily provoked, but stuff has gotten extremely out of hand in recent months and as as you stated, the mod team has been much too lax in response.
I'm going to make use of the ignore function and simply not feed any future fodder. Thanks for this. P.S. I hope this will also apply to mods - one of whom loves provoking the **** out of me any chance he gets. No boo hoo needed. But it's a fact. |

If purposeless attacks have a purpose, as you stated when clarifying what it meant, are they actually purposeless? And does this mean certain people can no longer talk about their infuriating opinions?

I haven't noticed any personal attacks against me in a while. So I was under the impression the site mellowed out a bit. It hasn't?

Obviously I'm glad to see someone taking action, as it's about time. Personal, nasty stuff was almost the cause of my leaving here last year (sorry everyone: so close, I know!) and while I've without doubt surprised myself by the thickness of the skin I've grown over the years, occasionally things go too far and that can still hurt. Hopefully I haven't crossed that line myself (if I have I apologise), as I like to think (in whatever deluded way I see the world) that I'm a nice person, and will continue to try to be so.
I do hope that, as you say Exo, this will apply though to EVERYONE, regardless of status, as if just one person gets away with breaking the rules then the rules themselves become pretty pointless. We don't want no Trumps around here. A very welcome announcement. Good job everyone. (Very interested to see when Lisanholic posts: should be a good one). |

*Sh1t is tough to towel down from though.....* I truly hope that 6 months from now you'll all notice the difference. I like it here. I just have to stay out of the Skid Row back and fourths. |
^I've noticed a difference. Maybe that's just me though.

I'm pleased to see that someone is taking a stance. It's been frustrating sometimes to see the quality of interaction on this forum go down into the toilet without anyone doing anything. I'd hate for this place to grow into some sort of weird, unpleasant, "seedy underbelly of the internet" type of place.
At the end of the day, I'm here for the music and the likeable, interesting people. |

Lisnaholic must be at the top of the nice list. I'm not sure if I'm at the bottom of the nice list or the bottom of the naughty list.

Yes the bar at Mount Everest.
|
Right next to the keychain kiosk.
|
Adjacent to the stand selling t-shirts that say, "I climbed Mt. Everest and all I got was this lousy dead wife."
|
Which are all located in the strip mall with the Starbucks and Subway.
|
And the funny ones:
"Mountaineers peak higher" "Mountaineers do it at the top" "Mountaineers like to be on top" "Top o' the world, ma!" "Sit on my North Face" and for those of a political persuasion "I like Hillary" |

1 Am I still aloud to remind people not to talk to me as per their own request?
2 Will there be a proper judgement on what was actually intended to provoke? Because I've said things that people took personally thinking I meant it to provoke them when I didn't, and I've also seen that happen to other people. Sometimes a hatred just runs so deep that you think everything is a personal attack. 3 When are we bringing DJChameleon back? What'd you guys do to him? He was a quality member. |
