Default legit question concerning polls in general

is there any way you could have it where anybody in any post in any particular thread could start a poll, instead of how it is now where you have to start a thread to post a poll?

cause i feel like there are some ways to use such a feature.

such as... you could have an albums vs thread where each match has its own poll

cause right now if i was to make an albums vs thread it would just rely on the judgement of whoever posted directly after me.

but if there was a poll then anybody who wanted to could vote for one album or the other, and then it's a real match

but making a new thread for each match just seems like too much to me.

i'm guessing there are technical reasons this can't happen that i'm unaware of. so i guess i'm asking what it would take to make it happen or if it's not feasible/possible then why not?

That would be an awesome feature, but I've never seen a forum with that kind of setup.

In the case of the album battles, I remember that when Pedestrian was running the album club she would update the polls to vote for themes and albums, so it is possible to have a thread with a poll that changes. It might be hard to get a mod to go along with it though, the most consistent case of this happening occurred when a mod was running the thread, but mods fix up or create polls for members from time to time as well.

I think a lot of the functions are already written within the forum code. I think it's highly unlikely that any thing new would be added.

There are a few things I seen asked that never materialized. Take emoticons for example, I have yet to see any new emoticons to be added, despite it being talked a couple of times (by members other than myself). I've seen some members ask things that MB use to have like Blogs to be reopened — only for them to remain closed.

Another thing, if there was an "any reply could be a poll" function, I could see is that it would be abused to make non-sense polls. Instead of using gifs, they would use polls to ask rhetorical questions just to be cheeky or sarcastic.

I think for now the best thing to do is make a poll in the lounge forum sub-section, Games, Lists, Jokes and Polls, and then provide a link to it. Or ask a mod to make add a poll to a thread if it didn't have one to begin with.

Are you sure she was swapping out polls in the same thread? In my experience, adding new options to an existing poll works fine but editing the tally on an existing option messes up the poll's counting ability. It's been a long time since I've tried it though so maybe that glitch has been fixed.

I don't remember exactly what she was doing, but whenever the voting would change we would have an entirely new poll.
