Of all the people still on the list that who confuses you? :banghead:

Well, to my knowledge, he's the only one who has publicly humiliated himself while making a huge deal about his departure.

It's posts like this that I find really cheapen the whole of MB wherever they appear. Vegangelica here gives a well formulated, researched, thought out post which brings up a lot of good, relevant points about the going ons here. This is met with ridicule of which the overall message seems to be don't bother, we are MB and we don't care about your posts or your opinions so you might as well keep quiet.

Earlier, I thought people did this basically out of moral laziness. If you haven't reflected much on what it is you bring to a community and haven't really thought about what you want your overall influence on a site to be, you might give some one day and take some the other. It's not really mean, more a sort of neutral by posting something nice one day and something bad the other. However, I have come to understand that the above is actually what the most active posters want from the site. It is not simply a matter of laziness. The voice of MB, the collective message of the people who post the most, will attempt to alienate any true effort, even one made in its best interest. It will use posts like the one above to try to quiet opinions and it does so relentlessly, hoping to tire people out or at least drown out their voices.

You're basically telling us over and over again that you and MB are not worth the effort. Well done, I get the message now and I believe you.

* (1) Mods insulting members to mock them (and, by example, encourage other members to do so, too).
Example: http://www.musicbanter.com/announcem...ml#post1597000

* (2) Mods participating in and condoning inappropriate behavior toward a new member.
Example: http://www.musicbanter.com/introduct...ng-myself.html

* (3) Mods changing thread titles of members without permission to mock them:
Example: http://www.musicbanter.com/introduct...-lovefest.html

* (4) Mods creating threads about members to express frustration with them.
Examples:
http://www.musicbanter.com/announcem...nt-thread.html
http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...ml#post1281735
http://www.musicbanter.com/games-lis...ml#post1283305

* (5) Mods going off-topic in a music thread that they dislike because of its topic before closing it:
Example: http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...ml#post1223056

^ I feel these mod actions are abuses of mod power and violate our community rules. That's not the sort of moderation or environment that I want at Musicbanter. I encourage other members who have similar concerns but don't feel comfortable voting in a public poll to contact Yac.

10. Some of my concerns are not listed in the individual items, but I will voice them in a reply.
Currently MB has no rule regarding going off-topic in a thread, and I feel it would be good if we had one, such as: "Please stay on topic in threads by responding to the original post and limiting your off-topic comments."

I've seen many threads where mods are reminding people unsuccessfuly to stay on topic, so having a firmer rule about going off-topic might help people stop themselves from meandering *too* far from the original topic.

Also, the thing I like least about our community...when members gang up on a particular person...could often be addressed not only as being a violation of the rule about making personal insults, but also as being off-topic for the thread.

I agree with everything you write, including this bit which I think you've written very well. These are all examples of moderators acting without moral integrity, without respect for the rules, the position they hold or the responsibility that comes with it. It's sometimes hard to watch as a member, but it is even harder as a fellow moderator.

Still, when I made my earlier suggestion, I hoped that the current moderators would be able to adapt to a new policy. Under the suggestion I proposed, with moderators being treated to the same rules, I would hope that those who could not adapt would eventually get weeded out.

Rejoice! Does this mean you'll finally put this to rest rather than continuing to cling to the hope that the majority of the forum will conform to what YOU want?

For example conform to general idea that you shouldn't ridicule people who make real effort on your behalf? Yes, I will give up on that.

I'm not ridiculing anybody, it's just that this desperate struggle to change what only a very few want changed has reached comical levels at this point. It took way too long for you to realize it's not a winnable fight.

I still hope MB will change as a result of the poll above, but it will have to happen without my help. I'm doing an Urban.

Friends here, send me a PM and perhaps we can hook up on facebook or something.

Great! What's so wonderful about the internet and its vastness is that if you have a problem with how a website is ran, there are thousands of alternatives available to you. Meanwhile everyone that likes this forum for its quirks gets to stay and enjoy what they've been enjoying for so long. Everybody wins!
