Fiddler, I pretty much agree with your list of suggestions

Someone brought up Sansa. Her, Dirty, Urban Hatemonger and others who were disruptive on this site could have been kept in check with a proper system. Possibly. At least perpetual rulebreaking would keep them tempbanned for a lot of the time. I think part of the reason they acted disruptive was that they felt they could get away with it. They may have been tempbanned or moderated somehow before the final permban, giving them some warning, but that would have been punitive action out of the usual to them which would have made it a personal conflict with the mods here. They'd probably just get more uppity from that. As a way to make a member better behaved, it is not very effective. As a way to get them permbanned, it is eventually effective.

As for the mod team should the decision be made to implement this suggestion (or some form of it), I think it should be bolstered with new mods. I wouldn't want to be a moderator on the site the way it is run now because it would only frustrate me, but I would be willing to help out with implementation. Plus, there could be members here already suited for the job who could help and I would also suggest contacting other ex-mods and see if they'd be on board with it.
Your system wouldn't have changed anything with Sansa or Dirty (no idea why you decided to include Urban alongside their names). They did receive a whole bunch of warnings, infractions and temp bans before they were perma banned so that wouldn't have been different. And they still would have tried to game the system, possibly moreso under your rules because they'd know exactly where the limits were. A new set of rules isn't going change people's personalities.

Haha, had to go do something for work and so wrote it up a bit too quick. Urba's been on my mind lately, but yeah his name shouldn't be in that list.

I'd say they could try all the want and if I felt they sneakily evaded the system, I'd just deal with it in the regular way. Take it up with the team and check for the green light to swing the banhammer. Special solutions to unusual problems is fine.

edit :

Also, most people do adjust their behaviour according to the social environment. You know this just as well as anyone.

Anyways, however many times she was tempbanned, a system of infractions might have multiplied that number. Or probably not because she would either get tired of being temp banned and so would clean up her act or she would leave. If she somehow circumvented the system, then good old judgment that you all love would be required.

edit :

By the way, any comments to this?
I was under the impression that the temp ban system was an automatic three strikes thing: first ban = 1 week, second = 1 month, third = perma ban. Like, it's just built into the computerization and ****.

Hmm, is it? Possibly. I forget the details of any policy we might have had in my time.

In general, I am in favour of systems that "forget". I like second chances (or third or fourth, etc). To put it philosophically, I think that given infinite time, even the average well-behaved member would get an infinite amount of infractions - or an infinite amount of temp bans. That doesn't mean their net contribution to the community is negative.

Of course, as mentioned before, special cases may require special measures. One neat thing about consistent use of the infractions system is; if a member was particularly difficult, you could basically give them less freedom than other members by giving some infractions on a very long timer (or even permanent). F.ex if a member had 9 infractions lasting for a year, they would have to behave pretty darn well the next 12 months to avoid tempbans.

I think it's neat.

In other news: oh look! Soulflower completely ignored my post. How unusual!

Really, maybe she is Ignoring me (with a big I) so does anyone know what she means by "call them out their name" or whatever she said? Also, can someone point out to her (pref Roxy or someone she'll actually acknowledge) that she is the only, I repeat ONLY one advocating new mods, yet she's making it seem as if this is part of the discussion. It isn't. Nobody wants new mods. Only her. I tried to point this out to her but got nada.

I've seen her use that phrase before and I too have no idea what it means.

Yeah, even if new rules were put in, I'd probably still act the way that I do now. For me, its just be more of a reason to act worse as a form of rioting. That goes for the idea of new mods as well. The current mod team is just fine.

I do not understand her reasons for wanting a new mod team, although I know what they are and why she sorta feels like she does. But I do not agree with her. She feels like she has been treated unfairly by a couple moderators, and she feels like it's a wee bit cliquish.

I have talked her a couple times. I mean man I dunno what to tell you guys, other then that's her opinion and she is entitled to have it. It's not gospel, or fact but it's her perception of the situation, and again she is entitled to have that.
